JESUS said, "give not that which is Holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn and rend you. " [Matthew 7: 6] My grandmother said this often when  I was little to teach me that there are some situations that are not improved by throwing your best at them and the only thing to do in those situations is get away from them quickly.

To make the point even more acutely, I quote these scriptures also:
"When JESUS was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, there came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment and poured it on HIS head, as HE sat at meat. But when HIS disciples saw it,they had indignation saying, 'to what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor. When JESUS understood it, HE said unto them, 'why trouble ye the woman? For she hath wrought a good work upon ME. For ye have the poor always with you, but ME, ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on MY body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. " [Matthew 26:6-13]

If you compare these two passages of Scripture you will probably conclude as I do that when you do something for JESUS you should put your best into it, spare no expense, and do whatever you do as unto THE LORD. But when you do something for dogs or swine, [animals] then you should not give them your best. Swine are ferocious in the wild and they are scavengers and they are disgusting! And dogs will lick up human blood and therefore they have a purpose but should not be substituted for people. Is this the conclusion that you draw from these Scriptures? Of course there is an element of humans that are so degraded that they think nothing of sharing a bed with a dog or a cat, or "kissing"  that animal or acting as if the animal is their "child" dressing it up and trying to give it human characteristics. There is one lesson that I learned in nursing school years ago, when I was in the Emergency Room rotation, and that is that animals do not become people. They do not take on the human spirit or the ability to have compassion on their victims. They bite to devour when they feel threatened, they turn and rend, and they cannot be trusted. The morale of the story is that we should give GOD our best and gladly and we should not cast our pearls before swine or give that which is HOLY sanctified to the dogs to play with or eat.
